St. Petersburg home becomes finalist in HGTV contest

A house in St. Petersburg’s Old Northeast is a finalist in HGTV’s Ultimate House Hunt contest.

Built in 2007 in the Mission Revival style, the 4,000-square-foot home a block from Coffee Pot Bayou is among 12 nationwide in the “curb appeal” category. Viewers can vote online through July 17 for a chance to win $10,000.

“I’m happy to have it featured,” said listing agent Amy Bailey of Smith & Associates Real Estate. She doesn’t know how it was chosen, though “HGTV has done a couple of episodes in St. Petersburg, so maybe whoever was doing that caught wind of it,” she said.

Potted plants flank a long, shallow brick stairway leading to the front door of the house, which has a tile roof and dove-gray awnings over the front windows. Other landscaping includes agave and cypress trees.

Priced at $1.399 million and on the market for 147 days, the four-bedroon, four-bath house features limestone flooring, walnut beams and solid maple kitchen cabinets. It is the only Florida house in its category, which includes homes in Vancouver, Rhode Island, California and Texas.

Last year, more than 1 million votes were cast in the Ultimate House Hunt contest. The winner for curb appeal was a home in Encino, Calif., with grass growing between large concrete pavers.

People can vote online once a day in each of eight categories. Among them are “homes with history,” waterfront homes and “modern masterpieces.”
